Roberto's spot

Bio

Shaping his sound thru influences coming from the early 90's German and Dutch techno, though always strongly loyal towards the main source of the theme, Detroit, Roberto has soon established his profile as one of the most interesting upcoming artists of the underground techno scene. Roberto's skill dwells in his attitude in bridging over tradition and forecast of techno music and his sound is always carachterized by a strong underground approach, as testified by the labels on which his works has been released. Seminal artists of the techno tradition as Orlando Voorn and Samuel L. Session or upcoming names of the contemporary electronic scene as Shlomi Aber, fastly recognized the talent of this young italian guy signing his works for their Imprints Night Vision, Klap Klap and Be As One. Back to his debuts, when he was still 22, he caught Voorn's attention, who, after having signed an original ep from Roberto, wanted him also to remix "Infiniti - Game One", one of the main Classics from the techno originator Juan Atkins from Detroit. The release had outstanding feedbacks by all the main artists of the techno Gotha, as testified by the several airplays given to the track by Francois K and Derrick May to name a few. As we're saying, another name impressed by Roberto's work has been the swedish stalwart of the oldschool techno tradition, Samuel L. Session a.k.a. SLS, who asked Roberto to roll up his sleeves and deliver a remix for the "Everything is ok in Detroit" track released on Samuel's label "Klap Klap". But it's with the start of the year 2009 that Roberto's name start to be on the lips of most of the these days artists. Having records signed by labels as Figure and Be As One, he fastly get into the rumble among his collegues. "The way is always the same / Dub Piano Ep", released on Be As One, sounds indeed to be one of the finest 2009's classic deep techno records. While his four tracks work included in the ep "Circle Dub", signed by Len Faki for his imprint Figure, shows all the sides of Roberto's musical attitudes. It doesn't matter if techno, house or dub, the result is always the same: a track which stands among the others. Last but not least, Roberto will be releasing in the next autumn, on "Snapshot Records", the track "Hong Kong", with remixers Rennie Foster,Claudio Mate And Elliott Dodge. And to complete the 2009 in the best way, Roberto is also working on a project for "Wave", the N.Y. Indie label runned by the legendary François K. Let's stay tuned, hot news will come soon.

Turin, Italy Releases on Night Drive Music, Eclipse, Sula Muse

passEnger's spot

Bio

Andrea Di Maggio, aka passEnger, is an Italian producer, dj, live performer and deep music addicted. He started making electronic music in his late teens, but his first release surfaced only in 2004 when he co-produced the electronic compilation ElettroSound Farm (with one of his tracks on it) and was involved in the ESF Collective (with whom he toured around to promote the compilation). Since then passEnger manages different electronic music projects. Lately he published two EP's on two German netlabels (Night Drive Music and Cosmic Playroom) and a third record on Paul Mac's Sula Muse Recordings, which brought him some positive comments from artists such as Laurent Garnier, Fabrice Lig, Convextion and DJ 3000 (Underground Resistance). His main source of inspiration is the soul injected, hi-tech, deep space machine music rooted in the early nineties of Detroit (as well as its future developments around the world). He tries to stretch the Detroit aesthetics in a personal and deep way. The music from his releases is the basic material for the extensive live set called [in my room] he toured with during 2007. The live performance included computerized audio, electronic machines, live visuals and surround sound, and features two upcoming and interesting artists, xluve (Marco Schiavone, producer, musician) and Headvision (Roberto Zitolo, video artist, director). He's also a dj with musician and friend xluve. Their sound can touch different styles, according to the situation and inspiration, anyway they always try to maintain a focus on musical quality, pleasure of listening, instead of following trends. Up to date, passEnger played in almost all clubs in Turin/Torino, with some gigs around Italy, ranging from small electronic nights to some big festivals. Lately they were invited to play at the code_in_motion night, video section of Club To Club festival, one of the most important electronic festivals in Europe.

Gent, Belgium Releases on Aesthetik, Mowar, Sushitech, Toys For Boys, Persistencebit

Franco's spot

Bio

Hailing from Gent Belgium, dj and producer Franco Cangelli made his debut with the successful 2005 release Spectre on Belgian imprint Toys For Boys. Since then he went on to release on Sushitech, Aesthetik, Seventh Sign, Persistencebit and his own imprint Mowar. He co-founded with dj Aki Aesthetik Records back in 2006, to create a platform for techno with an edge, releasing artists such Ozka, Johan Fotmeijer, Texture, Brian James and Franco’s own technoid sounds. Mowar is his own imprint where he releases deep techno inspired by the sounds of Detroit, with artists such as himself, Lee Holman, Aubrey, passEnger, Roberto Bosco. As a dj he’s known to be versatile playing quality house and techno in all its elegant forms, from soulful Detroit techno, jacking Chicago house, sweet and hypnotic deep house to glitchy and experimental techno and anything in between. He can even cook you up a weird, experimental set that will have you brain damaged for good. And he’s no stranger to electro… proper 808-driven electrofunk. Well… as a kid in 1984, he was a wannabe breakdancer. You do the math! His production works are equally multi-facetted resulting in a hybrid kind of techno or house cross-fertilizing Detroit and Chicago with modern-day electronics, occasionally exploring the dark leftfield side of things. Among his biggest influences you can find Carl Craig, Daniel Bell, Autechre and childhood hero Africa Bambaataa.
